Chapter Eleven

Holy hell…he nearly set her off with just the description.

Lacey gripped the counter as her knees threatened to buckle. Clearing her throat, she leaned close and smiled. “I’ve got exactly what you want, cowboy.”

“You’ve got that right.” He smiled, then disappeared for a few seconds before he walked into the shop.

He greeted Tanner but kept walking straight to her, same determined gleam in his gaze as the night before at the fair. Same heat darkening his eyes and tripping her pulse. “Can you take a break?” he asked.

“Yes,” Caitlin answered for her. “She can. I’ll cover.”

Lacey grinned, rounding the soft ice cream machine to stop in front of him. “Well, there you go. I guess I can.”

“Good,” he said, cupping her face and drawing her in for a kiss.

Her whole body heated at once, remembering what usually happened when his mouth was on her. She melted against him without thought. Not true. She did have one thought. Maybe she was actually going to get more than one night with Jesse Briscoe.

***

Briscoe Leather had a successful fair run, and according to Lacey, the fair had been kind to Quilted Lacey, too. Jesse was grateful for the business it generated, but glad when the fair had ended yesterday. Even his grandfather seemed happy to see it come to a close this year.

Normally, the seven days were a welcome distraction to his mundane life. All the extra work and time kept him busy. Broke up the monotony.

There was nothing monotonous about Lacey Turner. She was sassy, smart, sexy as hell, and unpredictable. He was quickly becoming addicted. A year ago, if someone had told him he’d rather ditch work, ditch his responsibilities, to spend time with the outspoken woman, he would’ve laughed in their face.

But it was true. Very true. And although that was a bit scary, he understood it to be freeing. “You need some fun in your life,” his grandfather often told him. Well, now, he had fun in his life in the form of a beautiful, strong-willed woman. The one pulling up in her truck to deliver another Sunday meal.

“Hi, cowboy.” Her smile lit up her whole face and it always interfered with his pulse. “I’ve got something special for you.”

Heart rocking a crazy beat, he opened her door and pulled the sexy woman into his arms. “You certainly do.” He covered her smiling mouth, kissing her long and deep.

He’d waited all damn day for this. For her. For them.

Last night was the first night they’d spent apart since they started seeing each other. With the fair ending yesterday, they each had inventory to put away and business to do. Plus, Lacey had to see her mother off today. Mrs. Turner officially started on her three month RV trip with her sister, leaving Lacey alone at the ranch.

“Mmm…” She melted into him, wrapping her arms around him while her tongue made quick work of his restraint.

Damn woman knew how to take him from zero to infinity in one point two seconds.
